Nikon Coolpix P950 LCD Display show light no image, viewfinder works.

Your List of cameras does not show my specific model.

My Nikon COOLPIX P950 work as designed save for when turned on you can tell the LCD display has light.

Display will turn on and off when the EVF is actuated.

Have changed display.

Have changed out the complete back panel of camera with different camera same issue. There are two ribbon cables on the rear panel; the display cable and the back panel controls cable.

It may be a PCB/Motherboard issue, but I have no way to test it save for changing out the motherboard. Which I can do...But wanted to see if you have encountered this issue and may have a solution.

Having checked the internet a lot of people have the same issue with no resolution, one thread was to clean the EFV sensor and this resolved several peoples issue, I did this and it made no difference.

I reset the camera setting to stock, did not resolve my issue.

Have tried to update firmware but it will not enter into the update process.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Does adjusting the diopter control affect the LCD screen at all?

Try shining a flashlight at an angle close to the LCD screen and check if you can detect any images on the screen when taking a picture. They will be very faint if they are there to be seen

If you can see images then there's a backlight problem with the screen. Since you have replaced the display it appears to be on the motherboard.

If you can't see images, then given that you can still take/view when downloaded, pictures OK there's a problem on the motherboard in regard to the LCD display.

The site you referenced does not have a service manual for the COOLPIX P950 only the COOLPIX 950.

I agree I am afraid it is the motherboard.

I have one of those as well I will swap and see if it works.
