Hi @bxerr,

Have you tried different USB ports or even a different computer to see if it connects?

Have you checked that the laptop's USB ports are working? If they aren't what is the make and model number of the laptop?

What have you tried?

@jayeff Thanks for the response, the lights don't work and yes i have tried it on other laptops, it just doesn't turn on. The usbs on the laptops are good im 100 percent sure it is the mouse. I have tried to check if the computer detects the input but it doesn't. That's all i have tried

Best that I can suggest is that you open it up and if you have a DMM (digital multimeter) use its Ohmmeter function to prove that the 4 wires in the USB cable connect to the mouse have continuity from the USB cable plug to where they connect in the mouse.

Sometimes it is a cable problem and not a problem in the mouse itself. It only takes 1 wire (either the voltage or the earth wire) to fail and effectively the mouse appears to be dead.

If the cable is OK then it will be very difficult to repair the mouse as mostly there are no wiring diagrams available and the components have no obvious markings to identify what type they are or their value.

@jayeff Thank you for this, i unfortunately don't have a DMM and i have tried to take it apart before but i was scared and i have never repaired a mouse in my life before. If you don't mind could you provide any info on what i would need to open up my mouse? I do not want to break it 😂 Thanks

I couldn't find a video for a Hex Ver.1 model but here's a video for a Hex Ver.2 that may help.

Place your voltage detector across the red and black wires from the cable (disconnected from the mouse) and plug it it to a computer. You should see 5V DC.

WARNING!! Be careful not to short out the wires with the detector leads as you can damage the computer's USB circuit.

If you do measure 5V then gently - stress gently - flex the cable at the plug end where it exits the cable plug and also at the mouse end where it goes into the grommet around the cable that secures it into the mouse and check if the voltage disappears or not when flexing as it could be a damaged wired in the cable and these are the two most likely places where it occurs.

If you don't see 5V DC at all then you will need a DMM to prove whether the cable is OK or not before trying to find the problem in the mouse.

There's no point looking for it in the mouse first as if it is the cable you've wasted a lot of time for nothing. It's quicker to eliminate/verify the cable as the problem first

Maybe ask one of your friends if they have a DMM, alternatively you can get an adequate one for <$15 at major hardware stores. Good investment as it is useful for a lot of things electrical.

Also just verifying that you've proved that the laptop's USB ports work OK with other devices e.g. charging/connecting a mobile phone?

@jayeff Yes I have tried the stuff with the voltage detector tommorow I will see if I get a dmm to check the USB cable is ok. And yes I checked because with my other mouse it does work perfectly fine. Thanks for the response once again and I will update whenever I get the dmm.

Hey @jayeff, Thanks for the video :) it gave me a good example of how to take apart my mouse although now i do not know what i am looking for but i will provide some pictures of the inside and outside of my mouse and perhaps you know what is wrong? Thanks again.

edit: i also plugged it in while off and not even the light turns on nor i hear anything and the whole mouse stayed the same currently im trying to unplug the 5 wires that i think its from the usb

edit 2: i unplugged the 5 wires from the mouse i don't have a dmm but let me know if a voltage detector is good to use because i am going to test this with the voltage detector

edit 3 the voltage detector doesn't work, is there anything i can do now other than use the dmm? I will get the dmm soon. Thanks
