Is this a loose display connection error? If so can I fix it?

The laptop has been used for years, when suddenly the display went grey with white lines. At the start if I moved the screen slowly into a certain position the screen would go back to normal and I could use it again, unfortunately after a while that stopped working and now the grey screen is constant.

I'm able to connect the laptop to a monitor/tv and it works perfectly fine.

Had a look around on the internet and found that this could be a loose display connection error, could anyone confirm this? If that's the case, then can I fix it without having to get a brand new display screen, for example replacing the connection tape would fix this maybe?

Any feedback is appreciated,

Thanks.

Hi Eryk,

Unfortunately, Apple has basically made their display assemblies unrepairable, so there's only one end of the display cable you can even check; the one that's plugged into the motherboard. That connector is pretty rugged and fairly foolproof, so if it's not the problem then the only solution is to replace the entire display, as there isn't any part of it that can be fixed separately, at least not by you and me. I'm not even sure it can be repaired by professionals; if it can, they'd have to have extremely specialized skills and equipment.

And of course a replacement screen isn't cheap; iFixit carries them used but they're currently out of stock on the premium quality ones, but have a limited number of what they call B-grade screens. Of course you can always check places like Amazon, eBay and AliExpress too.

Replacing the assembly isn't too bad of a job; no worse than most laptops, at least.

I'd love to be proven wrong here, and hopefully some of the repair technicians that contribute to this site can offer alternatives, but replacing the entire display is the only solution I know of.

Hi, I've managed to replace the display LVD Flex Cable but unfortunately that didn't fix the issue, I then randomly started to press on sides of the screen, and on the hinge cover and the screen came back to life until I moved the screen.

Now, everytime I gently press on the hinge cover the screen fixes itself as long as I don't move it forward or backward. Still don't know what the issue is...
