Mid 2015 MacBookPro Logic board

So some of the keys my MacBook Pro recently randomly stopped working and it randomly starts and stops again. But I don’t think simply changing the keyboard is going to work cause I believe the issue is with the logic board. I’m looking at the logic board here and it seems it has a 2.8Ghz processor. My macbook has 2.5Ghz. would this logic board work in my machine?

@preezy - I don't think you need a new logic board!

This sounds like a battery issue. Let me explain! When you charge your battery it can swell up which then presses on the keyboard cable. When the system cools down the swelling subsides and your keyboard works again!

Let’s get a better view of things, install this gem of an app! CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the apps main window and post it here for us to see Aggiungere immagini ad una domanda

@danj the battery didn't swell up. the battery actually was changed about 2 months ago for the second time since it was changed 2 years ago. And it's been working fine. the keys started acting up ever since I partitioned the drive and installed catalina update on the partition. since then I have removed the partition and restored my entire drive from time machine.. and my keys have gotten worse. pretty much from R to O. it stopped working.

@danj I have posted the screenshot of the app as an 'answer'

Not good ;-{ The new battery is already worn out or just not a very good battery from the start!

While the cycle count is still quite low at 76, the capacity is below 60% which tells me one or two of the cells are failing. This is also a sign of a battery which likely is out gassing (swelling). I just replaced a battery similar to this which was causing the trackpad to become difficult to press. It too was a replacement battery less than a year old.

The letters R to O share the same scan line within the ribbon cable to the logic board.

To prove the issue shut down your system and place it in a cool area in your house (no colder than 40℉/4.4℃) cellar or garage for a good four hours. Now restart it does the keyboard work correctly? If it did then you proved it.

The trackpad issue maybe more an issue with the metal plate is bent

Ok I just put it in the garage it's about 63°F. I'll come back with the update. Thanks for the info.

@danj so I I left it in the garage for more than four hours and it did start to work but for a few minutes. I plug two monitors, one via HDMI and the other via Thunderbolt. And I also have an ethernet Thunderbolt adapter for internet. I noticed the keys stop working not long after I plug the Thunderbolt adapter. And I also do feel heat around the aforementioned keys that stop working. Is it possible that the adapter is causing the excessive heat? and do you believe simply getting a better battery is the solution?

Sadly, you do need a new battery and replacing it is the first thing I would do.

You also appear to be pushing your system with dual external monitors. Which version of MacBook do you have?

2015 15" MacBook Pro - Integrated graphics - IG (MacBookPro11,4)

2015 15" MacBook Pro - Discreet graphics - DG (MacBookPro11,5)

@danj well according to coconutbattery 11,5 so DG I guess. I opened it earlier and I was trying to remove the adhesive from the battery under the trackpad with iso and I accidently spilled some and now the trackpad doesn't click anymore. it's still functional it works but doesn't click. It's frustrating. can anything be done about that? or is the damage to the trackpad likely to be permanent?

@preezy - Dah! I should have looked ;-}
