Refrigerator not getting cold enough

Hi

My Ge profile refrigerator (model PSC25SGSA-SS) is not getting cold enough :freezer-5-6 , refrigerator-45-47.

Here is what i know:

1-compressor-running

2-compressor fan-running

3-compressor coil- cleaned

4-evaporator-no ice build and is ice cold

5-evaporator-fan running

6-defrost thermometer- just replaced

7-defrost heat bulb-just replaced

8-temp sensor on evaporator-just replaced

9-control board -visually checked “good” no burned solder joints, no resistors burnt, no capacitor bulging at the top.

10-when i adjust the temperature on the freezer or refrigerator side higher. The refrigerator does turn off the compressor and fans.

11-when i replace the defrost thermometer the freezer side got to 0 to -2 but refrigerator side never got below 42

12-test the door switches on both door- working properly.

I am at my witts end, please advise.

thank you

Hi @khoaadams ,

Which evaporator sensor did you replace? The one in the freezer compartment or the one in the refrigerator compartment? There is a temperature sensor (maybe two - not sure what a shunt sensor is) in the refrigerator compartment as well as in the freezer compartment. part # 235 & 237 - fresh food section

Have you checked that the temperatures being displayed are accurate by placing a thermometer inside the refrigerator compartment, just in case it is a faulty temperature being displayed?

If the evaporator unit in the refrigerator section is not getting cold enough then maybe it is a faulty valve assembly - part 988 - sealed system and motherboard section. I think that this valve controls the amount of refrigerant that flows to the evaporator unit in the refrigerator compartment.

A failing damper will cause this. The damper door won’t open to allow air flow across the evaporator in the fresh food section.

Hi @ladytech

Learning all the time. ;-)

This refrigerator has an evaporator unit in the refrigerator compartment as well as in the freezer compartment so I didn't realize that it would still be relying on the fan in the freezer section for cool airflow. I thought that having a separate evap unit in the fridge compartment would be sufficient for that compartment as it only has to be at 37F

Is it only to help cool the water then?

Cheers
