Can't upgrade my microsoft

Hi,

I have an asus notebook. I have tried to upgrade to microsoft office 10 but it keeps telling me there is not enough room on my hard drive. I have removed all programs from my laptop, and have tried installing through a usb also but it keeps telling me there is not enough room. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

First of all which model do you have?

How big is your hard drive and how much free space is there on it?

It makes it easier for us to help you if you give us this information.

Off hand I would say you need to upgrade your hard drive to a larger Solid State Drive.

If you told us which model you have we could accurately tell you how simple or difficult that task would be.

Hi thanks so much for answering my question. You might have guessed I'm fairly new to the ifixit world! My laptop is an asus e402m. It says my memory is 2gb and my hdd is 32gb. When i go to c drive it tells me there is 2gb free of 28gb but i have literally removed everything i have ever put on it.

@Katta S

Just to add to the answer above, have you checked in Windows Explorer > right click C drive > Properties > General > Disk cleanup to see what else if anything can be removed?

According to this link the specifications are 32GB of eMMC storage (non upgradeable) and 2GB RAM also non upgradeable.

It also says that there should be 12GB of available storage, presumably after the OS and any pre-installed software is taken into account. Also about 500MB (0.5GB) may be used for the Recovery Partition as well.

If you have Win 10 installed then depending on which version it is might depend on how much storage it needs and how much would be left spare.

You are really pushing it though to get even halfway decent performance with only 2GB of RAM. I have the same with my 2011 Samsung NP Netbook although it has a 500GB HDD it is very slow with Win 10 even though it works

If you can't free up any more space the laptop has a SD card slot. You could insert the biggest capacity SD card that you can afford into the slot and configure that as the storage drive i.e. point all your Document, Downloads, Music , Pictures, Videos folders etc to the new drive, whilst the C drive is just for the OS and programs. It will be unobtrusive and also a good security feature as you can remove it when you are away from the laptop and take it with you. The only downside is if you wish to use the SD card slot for anything else. Just a thought.

Thanks so much for all the help!

Hi @jayeff ,

Good solution with SD. I do the same with Acer One 532H netbook, which at least allows upgrade to any size SDD.
