Why won't my dead iPhone charge?

I dropped my phone in a hot tub recently, but I quickly grabbed it out of the water and dried it off completely. I turned it on and it seemed to be working fine. Then while I was using it, it died. So, I plugged it in, and the little red battery thing came up. So I left it for a bit, and then the apple came up like it was gonna turn on. So I waited and then it turned on for a split second then turned off again. So I waited, but it has now been like 3 hours and it will only show the battery thing. please help me fix it!

If your data (pictures, contacts, notes, messages, etc.) are important to you, and you don’t have an iTunes backup or an iCloud backup, then you should immediately head out to a nearby repair shop and have them lift the screen and disconnect the battery. In the meantime do not try charging it.

Alternatively, you could do it yourself. Follow this link for tools and detailed instructions.

Next, if the iPhone only boot-loops (by turning off then turning on only to show the Apple, then turn off again) when connected to the power charging cable, but stays off when disconnected, you may only need a new battery after be phone board and pars are cleaned and dried.

if it bootloops regardless if connected or disconnected, it may be a number of things.

I personally don’t consider liquid damage repair a DIY thing because you need to lift the shields covering the mother board (requiring special tools and skill), displacing water with a solvent, drying, testing, etc. I would recommend taking it to a reputed repair shop that can perform microsoldering. A lot of them can do it lately, but not all of Ben are yet good at it. Choose wisely.

I just saw this and I had kept it plugged in. It turned on and is charging. It is at 57% now and going up very slowly. Do you think I still need a new battery?

Yep you got that right, I have a co-worker that does the board-repairs / micro-soldering for me.

Myself at best can do charging port replacements with soldering, I'm fairly competent with diagnosing / trouble shooting at a board-level for MacBooks and iPhones.

Did you open the phone to dry it out?

Not sure what you mean by open the phone up. I took my case off and stuff and tried my best to dry off every hole

He means opening up the phone to visually inspect the internal components inside the phone. Lots of times liquid is still inside slowly corroding the phone from the inside, like Rany said will require a professional to clean-up the board properly.
