Why does my screen have horitonal and vertical lines on it

Do pictures taken by the camera show the lines as well or are they OK, when downloaded and viewed on a computer? (I realize that you may not be able to see in the LCD screen what you are taking very well)

Has the camera been dropped or gotten wet at all?

If the pictures are OK ( good image, no lines, not just a black image) then there is a problem with the LCD screen or the connection to the screen. Hopefully it is not a problem on the motherboard that affects the screen only.

Without a schematic of the motherboard, as a DIY repair the only thing to do is to check the LCD flex cable connection to the motherboard and if that is OK to replace the LCD screen and check the result.

Replacement LCD screens are available online. Just search for Nikon D500 LCD screen part to get results for suppliers of the part.
