i have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that wont charge, i have bought a new battery and charger (i left this thing in storage for over a year) and after i turned it on after a long time i get a message saying “ plugged in,not charging , i have tested the battery and charger on a relatives laptop and it works fine, what could be my problem?

Seems like the issue. could be with power relay/controller. Since it doesn’t deliver any current to battery, then it is most likely a faulty battery connector or somewhere in-between relay and connector an open end. (Assuming from the fact that AC still delivers power and your laptop runs just fine on AC alone.)

i have been trying to search for a solution google and seen a big amount of people have the same problem( some cases go as back as 2006), so a problem with the plug of motherboard would be likely, i will see if i can pry the laptop open to examine for any visible damage.
Plug of battery, I hope, you mean?
