Phantom power into the headphone jack of Lenovo Z50-75, not booting

Hi,

I plugged a jack into my laptop while it was powered by phantom power. The machine just “snapped” and went black. There is no signs of power, the leds don’t light up. Is there any chance to save this laptop easily, or do i need a new logic board?

Thanks

Hi @f0_cus ,

As a first step, open the laptop and check if you can see any obvious component damage.

Given that it is difficult to obtain any schematic diagrams for the systemboard it won’t be easy to replace any obviously faulty part that you find because its’ value will be unknown, but if you can identify the part by its’ board identity someone may know what it is.

Here’s a link to the service manual for your laptop.

In it there are details on the pre-requisite steps and then the procedures to remove all the major components of the laptop.

Assuming that you plugged the jack into an audio connector (or was it a USB connector?), if you go to the section dealing with the ODD and USB & Audio board at least you can follow the ribbon cable back to where it is connected to on the systemboard and start looking there first.

It may be that replacing the systemboard is the easiest solution.

Hello. I have this laptop- was new, never used, but for a long time (i.e. out of warranty?). I think it was plugged in for a long time at first, ( unused, but charging), then unplugged for a long time.

The battery will NOT charge at all.

Laptop works when plugged in, but never charges, either while turned on or off...immediately shuts off when unplugged.

What a waste.

Would really appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Hi @sawaustin ,

If it works when plugged in, suggest that you replace the battery and check how that goes.

The original battery may have become depleted beyond recovery.

What is the make and model number of the laptop?
