Damaged display assembly connector MacBookPro A1398.

Hi, I guess I overestimated my fixing skills and while changing the battery and cleaning my MacBook Pro Retina 15" number 11,3 mid 2014 (A1938) I damaged one pin of the display assembly connector, the part that is attached to the display cable and plugs into the logic board. Just one pin on the far left is gone, but the display does not switch on anymore. Everything else is fine and I can use my mac just fine with external displays.

I guess going from most expensive to least expensive my options are:

1) new display assembly

2) used display assembly OR (here is the question)

3) can I have somebody replace just the connector, or maybe if the display assembly has a similar connector on the other end just replace the cable + 2 connectors if this is available as a part? (maybe used). Both seem very difficult options (I don't plan on doing this mysefl, esp. considering my poor track record :-) ) but may be doable.

TIA for any suggestion.

Update (06/16/2018)

As an update, I just found out that the cable is an actual part that can be bought online (I don't know whether I can post the link but google for "MacBook Pro Retina LCD LVDs Cable A1398 " . It's 10 Euros, so perhaps there's hope, I'll just need somebody to the heat gun work to unglue the screen and replace the cable. Still, any suggestion is welcome.

No need for the heat gun as we can sneak it in!

You are correct the cable can be replaced. You may want to leave this for someone with deeper skills as you’ll need to fully remove display to gain access to the connector as you can see here: MacBook Pro Retina Display Teardown while not very clear jump to Step 8 here is a blowup of the connector:

This board is flexed up it would normally lay flat. You only need to get to step 5 lifting the Antenna unit to gain access to the connector which you can see here:

Here’s the IFIXIT guide you’ll need to follow to get the display out: Sostituzione Gruppo Schermo MacBook Pro 15" Schermo Retina Metà 2014

Hi Dan, thanks, what I really mean is that this time I probably won't fix it myself, but if I can find somebody who will that'll save a lot of money compared to replacing the whole display assembly. I think I can find a repair shop that can do it, for people with the same issue there are videos on youtube that explain how to replace the display that also work for changing just the LVDS cable. I'll post details when the repair is done.

did you get it repaired, what was the solution?

@doninicc - He threw in the towel as he knew this was beyond his skill level. I'm sure his system is working either by replacing the damaged cable or the full display assembly.
