Why have I got a wide band across my screen stopping sign in?

What is the model number of the PC?
What OS is installed?
Is the monitor display OK, i.e. no band when starting up?
Have you tried typing in the password anyway to see if you can get access?
Have you tried starting in "safe mode' to see if you can get access OK?
