Disassemble case in order to replace fan

Hello,

I'd like to replace fan on this NAS but don't know how to take down the case without the breakage. Any ideas?

This thing has only been out two years. How old is yours, it may be covered under warranty. I am not finding any info on repairing it, no teardown,

The Wiki states: My Cloud relies on air convection for cooling, without a fan.

This thing looks exactly like a MyBook. If that is the case (pun intended), it should open just like this one:

No, the MyCloud looks like the MyBook; the MyCloud EX2 (and EX2 Ultra) doesn't.

The single drive units indeed do not have a fan; but the EX2 (and EX2 Ultra), which has 2 drive bays, do have an internal fan. It's either a fan spinning up when the drives hit 60C, or I've finally discovered where my toy army men have been hiding the Apaches they used to wipe out Teddy Bear village with.

As a general rule: *all* the characters in a model name/number are there for a reason. To say the MyCloud EX2 Ultra looks the same as the MyBook, is like saying that the *Mercedes-Benz S*printer looks like the *Mercedes-Benz S*-Class S560 Cabriolet.

I haven’t needed to take my EX2 apart yet. But it does look like just a case of picking at the joint between the “covers” and “pages” on the back panel. Then sliding the U shape of the “covers” forward. Like the MyCloud, but fatter I guess. I think the HDDs don’t even technically need to come out; but probably should, especially since popping them out through the drive bay door at the top is so easy anyway.

FYI, changing that fan might help with noise, but it won’t help with temp. If the look doesn’t bother you, then I’d just stick a quiet 80 or 90mm fan on the top or bottom, and power it from the USB. It’ll be quieter than the internal fan, and the HDD’s are kept cool enough so the internal fan will never kick in.
