No display image after fall

I dropped my MacBook Pro. It fell half a meter on the top side (it was closed).

- Plugged in to an external monitor works ok

- No light in the apple logo on the back of the display

- Tried to see some image on the display by using a flashlight on the apple logo in the back but couldn´t see anything.

- Webcam works ok

I´m willing to replace the entire display assembly, but I´m unsure if there is another component that might the culprit (like the logic board or some cable). Can you recommend tests to try to isolate the cause?

Thanks!

First things first I would always try disconnecting the Display form the Logic Board and then connecting it back in and make a solid connection. If this doesn't work then I would go with the Display being needed.

You should open up the unit and reseat the display cable, if that doesn't work I would recommend you remove the display, remove clutch cover on display and inspect both ends of LVDS cable. Buying a $400 display on a hunch seems risky.

You both were right, reconnecting the LCD cable did the trick. Thank you!

If there is no display at all, it is not going to be an issue with the screen. The screen will only need replacing if it is lighting up, but has physical damage (ink marks/lines/cracks), or if the actual screen PCB underneath the plastic hinge cover is liquid damaged. The issue you are experiencing is most likely related to the LCD cable or the logic board.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLNUjeUL... Follow the video up to 8:30, where you disconnect the LCD cable. Reconnect the LCD cable and backlight cable at this point, then plug it into the MacBook without reassembling it fully. If the screen now works (90% should fix it if just dropped), put it back together. If not, the LCD cable may need replacing, but I would say to get someone to diagnose this properly at this point.

Really sounds like the display.

$400 is quite a bit for the display, so maybe check ebay for a display or the same model macbook with some issue that is not display related for cheaper.
