Display water damage - how to fix?

Hi,

today my water bottle (soda) accidentally leak in my school bag so my two devices "TI Nspire CX CAS" and my "Casio Ex Word EW g560c" get wet.

The main problem is the TI Nspire because I need it for school.

The screen now looks like that:

It seems that there's water behind the screen.

Currently I've put the TI into rice, so it might hopefully dry.

What do you think? Might the screen get normal again? If not what would be the best way to fix it? As far as I know the display is easily removable, but where to get a new one or how much will a repair cost? Does anybody have an idea?

Waishon, The rice will have done very little if anything to save your device. Stop charging or powering up your device until the liquid damage is addressed correctly, as you could be shorting out components inside the calculator. You really should take care of the corrosion ASAP that is happening inside the phone from the liquid damage as that could be your problem. A tear down link for your device Link #1 and 2, disassembly guide will enable you to get inside the device to remove the damage/corrosion caused by the liquid. Use the 3rd link as a guide/instruction on how to clean/repair the device from liquid damage. After this you will be able to power on the device and see if further damage has to be addressed. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.

Hi,

so as far as I know warranty is lost, so what happens if I will broke the device during disassemble? So I can't send it to Texas Instruments to repair it.

@waishon ,Waishon, If possible use the warranty hopefully they may be lenient , If not wanting to risk repair yourself by all means send back to manufacturer or their repair center for diagnoses, estimate and repair. Good luck.

Yeah I think if it's not helpful to put it into rice, I will send it back to the manufacturer, but I don't know if it might be cheaper to buy a new one :)

Also I've bought the TI from a school-reseller where our school buys a lot of TI, so they might be lenient and I've a 5 year warranty bought too. But doesn't it damage the TI if I wait until I send it to the manufacturer? Because of the corrusion?

Waishon, The best you you will do on the net. is probably $80 used good and maybe $150 new so I am not sure, what I would ((hope)) is that the factory would turn a blind eye(include accidental warranty) and send you one for free or at a discounted price. Nothing is for sure and yes normally the sooner liquid damage is adressed the better the odds of repair, what really harms them is when people leave battery in and keep trying to powering them up or charging as this can cause internal shorts and ruin logic board,displays,etc.,etc.. Just go with what best suits your present position(financially, how bad you need it,etc.) Good luck.

Hi,

I called the manufacturer and they said that they don't repair such thing, because it's not worth it.

So there're also no replacement LCD panels available. Is there a way to repair the LCD screen itself if there is water inclosed? How could the water go into the screen? The screen itself is working perfectly fine.

Hi Waishon, Clean it with 91% isopropyl alcohol with soft bristle toothbrush, followed by letting the board and parts dry then put it back together and let me know how it goes. You should wear gloves throughout the whole process.

So after I put the TI about 1 week into rice the water below the display drys and the screen is now perfectly clear again. So everybody who has such a water damage. Wait a week put it in rice and relax :D Then it might work again.
