No beeps, no post just Black Screen
Hi all,
I have a HP pavilion dv2700 laptop with 3gb of memory and a SATA hard drive. I reinstalled the OS (vista) using the recovery tool from the options. F11 in this case, It all went well, everything installed and I was even inserting user details. I turned my back to it for a couple of minues and then I saw this black screen and the laptop would not react. I turned it off and on and there was no POST and just a plain black screen.
I tried to disassemble it to take dust out before and then I started to reinstall the OS. I probably messed it up right there.
I took everything out, the memory and tried them one-by-one and turned it on, it gave me 4 beeps. (I guess it was just saying there was no RAM) sometimes after putting everything back again it gave me 2 short beeps. Apart from that just the black screen that tells me the screen is good and there is reaction but there is no post , no BIOS... so I cannot go any further.
What can it be??? Please give me some suggestions.

Thank you so much for your answer. I really appreciate you taking that time.
I tried hooking up the laptop to a monitor to see what it could come up but nothing. I think it is the mother board that just got fried. Now, What happens when you use a heat gun on the chipset? will it reset it or something like that. I think Nvidia chips cause the heap issue in most of the HP laptops so it must be the video card. My friend gave it to me to see why this laptops would turn off sometimes. I worked with it for some hours and nothing wrong happened.. I reinstalled the OS as I said and then it died on my for no apparent reason. If he were your client what would you say???
That he needs to replace the Mobo even though when he brought it to you is was actually working???
Thanks for your replies.

The heat gun is just a temporary fix and the motherboards are known to be defective. If you want a permanant solution, just replace the system. The price of a replacment that has a high potential to fail is not enticing. I have replaced many of the HP dv2000-9000 series motherboards and unlike most replacements some came back dead depiste our efforts. We have come to the point that we will not do that kind of work on those laptops due to the money we have lost on such a lemon.
