Hi, Does it turn on every time when the charger is connected and switched on?

When it doesn't turn on, does it turn on normally if you press the power button again?

When it doesn't turn on is the green light the only light to come on after you have pressed the power button. What about the Power indicator light and the battery charge indicator light (if you have the charger connected).

@jayeff It seems to almost always do it when I turn the laptop on now these days. Power one comes on too I think. Do you know why or what I can do to fix this? Is it an expensive repair job?

Hi, You may have to start writing down what happens when you turn it on and nothing occurs to see if there is a pattern which may make it easier to find out what's happening. e.g. what lights are on, is the fan running ,is the charger connected, is it on battery only etc.

The green light with the padlock +1 just indicates that the Number lock feature is enabled.

Hi the bulb sign also lights up green, does that help? @jayeff

This sounds like a hard drive problem.

Have you heard any clicking sounds or strange slow behavior before it started doing this if so than it is the hard drive gone bad

Not really... here is a guide;

Asus X401A Hard Drive Replacement

And you need a 2.5 HDD, you can buy the one that the computer came with from that guide, or this would be the perfect time to upgrade if you need more capacity. The real hard part will be getting Windows back... look for a sticker with a code for Windows on the box or on/in the computer, if there is not one try contacting the laptop maker (sometimes there is a Windows key secretly in the bios and such...

P.S. If you have a desktop try plugging the hard drive in the laptop into it and see if it can see the drive can or not...

Im going to take it into a repair shop, hope it wont cost much

Well if you would accept this as the answer if you found my answer helpful.
