MacBook Pro will not come out of sleep IF plugged in

Hello, my MacBook Pro 13" mid-2010 does not wake up from sleep when plugged into a power source.

If it runs on battery it wakes up just fine.

I've tried to reset PRAM and SMC (although I'm not sure the latter was successful, I read somewhere that the light on the MagSafe should change color, mine does nothing).

Also, I have run the AHT test, both, the fast one and the extended. Same result, no trouble found.

I've done a clean install of OS X El Capitan with a brand new SSD hard drive.

Doing so didn't fix my issue, but it slightly changed it...

Before (with Lion) the MacBook wouldn't wake up after closing the lid if plugged in, but it would wake up after going to sleep with the lid open.

Basically, I could never close the lid while charging the laptop.

If that happened I had to shut down the computer holding down the power button and start it again...

Now it does not wake up at all if plugged in, regardless of the lid!

I've found people online having the opposite problem, as in their MacBooks don't wake up when using the battery, but work fine while plugged in.

Changing the battery fixed their problem.

I'm wondering, could the MagSafe cause my issue?

Any suggestions?

Sorry if it somewhat confusing, but English is not my first language, so hopefully it is clear enough...

Thanks in advance for your help!

Giuseppe,

Sorry to hear about these issues, check out this Apple Support article (https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204760).

Check to see if your system is in safe sleep mode.

Sorry if you already tried this article, but a good starting point!

Hi Joshua,

Unfortunately, it does not wake by pressing the power button, so I suppose it's not in safe sleep.

I have not found a way to wake it up so far.

Thanks

When did you start noticing this issue? After the install of a new program, update, or OS X install?

da

I'm pretty sure it is a hardware problem, not a software one... I honestly don't remember exactly when it started, because it was a long time ago.

I fear it is related to the Logic Board.

However, being an old MacBook, I don't think it is worth to replace the board, and I do not want to get a new Mac at the moment.

So, I would love to find out what the problem is, and then if it is the logic board, maybe find a workaround.

Is there a terminal command that prevents the MacBook from sleeping when closing the lid?

Hi, and thanks for your help!

So, I bought it new in Nov/Dec 2010. No water ever got close to my macbook :)

I'm posting a pic of my activity monitor while using only Chrome with 10 tabs open.

Please let me know if you want to check anything else.

Replace the battery.

Well, I have just done that. Unfortunately, nothing changed.

Have you had a look at the memory on my activity monitor below?
