Every so often the sound becomes robotic-like, it's not coming from computer internal speakers alone, it happens even when connected to external devices. The noise is like a robotic sound that's dragged out from original sound, and then it goes back to normal. I called a Dell rep and asked what was the problem, the wouldn't tell me what the problem was, but said it would take $199 to fix.

Kenny P, could be an audio codec issue. Start by uninstalling current drivers and software. Once you did that, reinstall the proper driver and see if that made a difference. Your audio hardware is part of the motherboard, so if it is an audio IC issue I suggest an external USB sound card to fix it.
