LCD flex wire broken during glass replacement

i was replacing the glass. while peeling the glass screen off i accidentally broke the flat wire connected to the LCD digitizer, now all the buttons work but the screen no longer displays or senses touch. is there anyway to fix the wire without having to replace the whole LCD which is very expensive?

I have seen a few videos on YouTube that show how they can be repaired. It is very difficult to repair a ribbon cable but not impossible if you have the tools and patience. You surely need a magnifying lamp to perform this task. The best method I've seen the guy uses a razor to scrape the plastic enough to expose the tracks where the tear in the cable is. Under a microscope he lined up the tracks and kept them in place with some double sided tape. Once the tracks are properly aligned he used a conductive adhesive to join each track and removed any excess adhesive to prevent shorting. Once completed he used some kind of non conductive adhesive to strengthen the joint. Once dried he applied some tape over the joint as well. In my opinion this is a temporary fix at best and has little structural strength compared to a good ribbon cable. With my luck the joint would break when trying to install the display.

So yes it is possible to repair a ribbon cable, but takes a very steady hand and lots of patience as well as the proper tools. It is also more a temporary fix until you can afford to replace the display. I've seen these displays sold on eBay and Amazon for fairly cheap. Maybe cheaper than the supplies needed to repair a ribbon cable. So if you have the tools and the time and can't afford a new display this could be a temporary solution to get the display working until you can afford a new display. Best of luck and hope this helps.

Just because most can't do it does not make it impossible. I do not advise just simply state it is possible.

No, you can't fix the flex only and replace the whole LCD is the only way to save your phone.

I know it's old but I just seen this and ur wrong. U can change just the ribbon with a new instead if trying to repair which is much more difficult but u can try and find a new flex and installing onto the display which is also no easy task. Without a rework station ur doomed

I am going to try something I have heard about have never needed to try it. But I have this s3 parts phone and lcd is good have the flex to the digitizer is busted. No touch. I will be back with results.

Update (02/12/2016)

Okay I tried the splicing of the flex wire cable. Noooooooooo! Sobyeah buy a new phone. It is possible to replace the good lcd with a bad one and just very gently remove the wire from the busted lcd, same with the busted one in the old lcd. Replace the working lcd with the old and slip the non busted wire back into place. Use little glue and double sided tape. I will post a pictures soon. And this is something you should only do if you are experienced and bored.

i also tried to repair a 6 conductor, 1/8" wide flatflex. tried 2 or 3 different ways. no success.

It seems that in search of multiple flat conductors, a better solution than flat flex would have/ could have been thought of. But that's just me.

i think the idea was to make it so you would have to buy another if you damage the most fragile part of the screen. they get to sell more of them

After all of this, it seems the best idea is to locate a new screen (with a new cable) on ebay and try to get it for a reasonable price.
