How to fix a dead IR receiver module?
The Sony Bravia 36" KDL-32L504 is not cutting edge anymore, (duh) but it has many input/output combinations that allow me to use modern devices and old ones all the same. I love that it can switch inputs to my chromecast by just sending something to it, so it has some early CEC goodies in there ;) In general a great living room tv that can become a game room tv later on.
Then, the remote stopped working just after the warranty coverage ended. Here's what I've found out by doing "my homework". So I grabbed my phone camera and I pointed my tv's remote towards it, pressed some buttons and the remote is indeed working properly, because I can see the IR blips of light through the camera's 'eye'. So the issue is the receiving end of it.
I found a video on youtube, a very good one that detailed the entire issue that I have but, it was for model KDL-32L5000, and while it said the particular IR module inside may also be used on my model, I would like a bit of confirmation before ordering anything from eBay or ShopJimmy or wherever.
SO, if you are here because you got a KDL-32L5000 and your IR receiver is dead, here is that youtube video I mentioned. That guy fixed it good... If anyone knows if that fix would do the trick for me as well, or if there are any other suggestions for a fix, I welcome any and all attempts at trying something out.
