No Video on LCD Screen DVI Video Tested and working

1.83Ghz unit / 2GB Ram

When booted in a dark room, you can make out two faint vertical bars and a single row of pixels are lit at the top of the screen.

When I use the DVI output, it works fine, unit is solid other than the lack of an LCD image.

Could this be a bad LCD panel or the is it more likely the video card?

Im inclined to believe its the LCD. Looks like its a samsung LNT54X7?

Thanks mayer !!

Since you have good video on the external monitor your GPU (graphic card) seems to be OK. Most of the time vertical bars means bad LCD panel (faulty LCD electronic board). You don't have any video onscreen but two faint vertical bars and a single pixels row ? Am I right ? You could check your LVDS (video) cable connection to the logic board. Take off the connector from the socket and fully reinsert it. Another test is to apply pressure with your fingers each side of the iSight camera and on both sides of the screen and check if there's a change onscreen. Any change in the screen when playing up and down with the lid ? When closing the display does the MBP goes to sleep normally ?

You are correct about the video output, faint lines. You were correct also to suggest simply unplugging the LVDS cable it and plugging it back in. I just put it back together and the darn thing lit up and works fine again.

I moved the lid around and all functions seem normal. I will comment again one i get it back together and working in one piece. Wish me luck, Scott

Well, it was too good to last. By the time i closed the lid and screwed the 4 long screws that keep the keyboard held down, the problem had returned. now when i remove the cable and plug it back in, the colors change on the LCD. I assume the cable is the culprit?

take off the four long screws and boot the machine.

Took out those screws, as well as the ones that hold the panel to the chasis. Im back to no video, just the faint verticale bars and single pixel row.

Seems like replacing the LCD would be the best thing to do at this point. Do you concur?
