In this guide I will teach you how to repair a loose bike chain. Before we begin the guide you will need a socket wrench, gloves, and a bike stand (optional). A bike chain is a chain that connects the pedals to the rear wheel. When you rotate the pedals as you do when riding your bike, the energy created by the rider transfers to the rear wheel, thus allowing you to move forward.

Determine if your chain is loose. As shown in the pictures, the bike chain is hanging low; this is an excellent indication that your bike chain is loose.
Your bike might have oil all over its chain and gear, so it's best to wear gloves.

Use a bike stand or wall to help keep your bike from falling.

Loosen both nuts on either side of the rear wheel using a socket wrench, rotating the wrench from left to right.
Be sure to not fully unscrew the nut or else the rear wheel will no longer be connected to the bike and you will have to spend time reassembling it.

Hold the end of the bike wheel with one hand and the bike's frame with your other hand.
Pull the wheel back from the frame.
Hold the wheel in place while proceeding to the next step.
While holding the wheel back, your chain should stop hanging.

Tighten both of the loose nuts using a socket wrench, rotating the wrench from right to left, while still holding the wheel back.

Check if your chain is still loose. As shown in the pictures, your chain should have more tension making it straight rather than hanging.
Do not place your fingers too close to the bike gear. It may accidentally spin depending on how your bike works and trap your fingers.
