Background and Identification
The Porsche Boxster and Cayman are mid-engine, two-seater sports cars produced by Porsche, a German automobile manufacturer. The Boxster was produced across four generations as a two-door, two-seater roadster (Boxster), and a three-door, two-seater fastback coupé (Cayman).
The Boxster S Special Edition was also called the 550 Spyder Boxster S Special Edition. The S Special Edition was introduced in 2004 with a production run of 1,953 vehicles; this number paid homage to the 550 Spyder’s year of introduction (1953). All Boxster S Special Edition cars were painted in GT Silver Metallic with a cocoa-brown full-leather interior as the standard option with grey natural leather as a no-additional-cost option. Each Boxster S Special Edition car also featured special interior paintwork, a BOSE sound system, Boxster S sport exhaust, and M030 option sports suspension.
A plate in the Boxster S Special Edition’s center console piece includes the vehicle’s production number; this plate is commonly known as the “batwing.” On American market cars, the rear turn signals are red rather than clear. The Boxster S Special Edition models include the Porsche shield emblem which includes a black horse in the center with the name “Stuttgart” in capital letters, the name “Porsche” across the top in capital letters, and black and red alternating stripes in the upper-right and lower-left shield quadrants. The upper-left and lower-right shield quadrants each include three antlers.
