Mentre senti parlare di smartphone tutti i giorni, probabilmente non senti più parlare altrettanto spesso di cellulari più vecchi. I feature phone sono i relitti dell'era pre-smartphone.  In realtà, però, non sono completamente nella storia, e alcuni cellulari vengono ancora usati oggi.

Il termine "feature phone" si riferisce a telefoni che mantengono pulsanti e controlli fisici, in contrapposizione all'avere un'interfaccia con schermo touch. I vecchi cellulari hanno interfacce utenti più semplici, a differenza dei complicati sistemi operativi Android e iOS che vediamo negli smartphone. Anche se la locuzione "feature phone" ha quasi un'accezione negativa, questa in passato si riferiva ai cellulari di fascia alta che includevano altre funzionalità oltre al chiamare e inviare messaggi. Ah, come cambiano i tempi.

I vecchi cellulari sono una fantastica opzione per avere un dispositivo duraturo e affidabile che è specializzato in chiamate e messaggi. Ovviamente è anche significativamente più economico di uno smartphone. I cellulari di base richiedono anche molta meno energia degli smartphone, il che significa che sono perfetti in deserti di energia quando è necessaria la comunicazione via telefono. Inoltre, questi cellulari abbassano la posta in gioco quando si parla di perdere o rompere il dispositivo, rendendoli una buona opzione per usarli come primo cellulare dei bambini.
