Print or scan quality is poor
The quality of the copy or print is not up to your standards.
Poor Scanning Quality
Make sure that the printer is stable and on a flat surface and that the paper is being copied is flat against the glass of the scanner.
If there are spots or streaks on the copied pages, clean the glass of the scanner with a lint-free cloth and if necessary, a very small amount of glass cleaner can be used to spray on the cloth first (not directly onto the glass).
Correct Side of Paper
Make sure that the side of the paper that is meant to be printed on is facing up when put into the sheet feeder (e.g. the whiter/brighter or the glossy side of the paper).
Ink Cartridges and Paper
For the best printing and copying outcome, Epson recommends using their Epson special paper and Epson ink cartridges.
Stripes or Faint Print
If there are stripes of ink across the page or if the ink is too faint, the print head might need to be cleaned. You can run a "nozzle check" as described in Epson's support manual for the Epson Stylus NX420 on page 36.
Paper doesn't feed or gets jammed
Paper doesn't feed into printer or it gets jammed in the printer.
Sticky Paper
Remove all the paper from the sheet feeder and flip through the stack to separate the sheets from each other. Reload the paper against the right side, and then slide the left edge guide up against the paper, but not too tightly.
Too Much Paper
Only up to 120 sheets of letter or A4-size plain paper, 80 sheets of matte paper, or 20 sheets of photo paper, can be loaded into the sheet feeder at a time. All other papers should be loaded one sheet at a time.
Hole Punched Paper
Do not load paper that is hole punched.
Jammed Paper
- Gently remove the jammed paper from the output tray or the sheet feeder
- If the paper is stuck inside the printer, turn off the printer.
- Open the scanner, remove the jammed paper, close the scanner, turn the printer back on, and load another sheet of paper into the sheet feeder.
Full image isn't copying
Be sure to line up the paper being copied in the front, right corner of the scanner glass.
Paper isn't feeding into printer
Do not load paper above the arrow mark inside the edge guide of the paper feeding tray.
Error Codes: W-10, 11, 13, and 41
At least one of the ink cartridges are empty and need to be replaced.
If the ink cartridges are replaced and the error code remains, make sure that the cartridges are correctly installed by pressing the start button, pressing down on the cartridges so that they click into place, and press the start button again.
Error Codes: W-01 and E-10
If this error appears, it means that the internal parts of the printer have reached the end of their service lifetime. You can try contacting Epson for help, but because the Epson Stylus NX420 is discontinued, there might not be much they can do.

My Epson Stylus NX420 printer won’t “feed” any paper. It just keeps saying that there is no paper. It also slightly crinkles the right corner of the first page in the bundle in its attempt to grab paper to print. I was using just plain standard paper. HELP

I am having this problem as well. I know its older but has worked great and have alot of ink for this machine. Did you get this problem fix or just tossed it in garbage. Please let me know if theres something I can do that maybe you did to fix it.

Been cleaning nozzles more than once.changed cartridges to 125. But it still prints with skipped stripes if i choose color but for B&W its fine.

My printer/scanner had a paper jam, which I removed. Now, however, it will not copy or scan properly. The copy comes out with large gaps in the printed body. It seems to only see parts of the document I want to copy. I tried scanning it and it never finished the scan. I decided maybe the print head needed realignment. Perhaps it got out of alignment while I was removing the paper jam? Or something else inside of the printer got moved or altered in some way while I was removing the jam? Now it will not print all of the alignment test, so I cannot realign. Any suggestions?
