old battery not holding a charge anymore

this is for a:
Model Name: MacBook Air
Model Identifier: MacBookAir3,2
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 1.86 GHz
after first swapping the battery the rpsvchost process was jacked. tried a pram and it seemed to clear the problem but later i noticed that after several hours being plugged in the battery wouldn't charge past 66% and when you unplugged it it immediately shut off.
tried opening it back up and disconnecting the battery cable. powered it back on and the rpsvchost process was pegged again at 99 / 100%. this time i shut it down and tried an smc reset. it's been several days and so far so good...

do an smc reset after swapping the battery.
