Volume/Power Cable replacement... more info needed

I just tore my volume/power cable while working on a screen replacement for the iPod Touch 4th gen, following your guide.

I accept full responsibility, but I strongly urge you to add a little more explanation as to *how* to avoid damaging this delicate ribon. An extra sentence or two and a picture showing where the cable runs underneath the board would save many from the same mistake I made.

In my case my pry tool was a little too wide and I wiggled it too much while lifting the logic board. If I knew exactly where the cable ran underneath that could have been avoided.

Now I see you sell replacement cables, but your description of required tools is incomplete and you lack a guide.

The replacement requires soldering equipment.

I have very little experience in that department and don't know what specs the soldering equipment needs to have to avoid damaging the motherboard or cable. I also don't yet know if it requires special solder or, for that matter, if the required solder is already attached to the replacement cable and only needs heating.

I would appreciate more detail for myself and others.

Thanks.

James Yount, sorry to hear about your misfortune. The good thing about the guides on here, you can edit them yourself, or even better, leave a note on the guide. that way you can prevent others from running into the same problem. Again sorry for your mishap.

Point taken, though I was hoping the iFixit team could add one of their high-quality pictures in the appropriate spot, perhaps with an area marked in color to indicate the danger and/or safe areas.

And there is still the matter of the equipment needed for replacing the volume/power ribbon cable. I assume users can't edit the equipment list.
