My Macbook late 2023 16'' MRW33LL/A top half was recently damaged, its all bent but the display works fine. Could I replace the clamshell/mounting hardware and maintain the display? Or is the clamshell/display considered a single piece?

Ouch! The Display assembly is a unitized part. Apple does not offer any of the discrete components. Apple has cracked down on factories funneling parts out the back door bypassing the Apple tax.
Sadly, that only leaves you with replacing the whole assembly. Now the not so fun part, Apple introduced hardware serialization a few years ago which limits what you can replace using removed parts (another Apple Tax!) so you need to get the part directly from Apple or one of their parts distributors if you want to fix your system on your own. Once you replace the display you will need to calibrate it (updating the systems parts serial number) and align the zone backlight with the display.

Self-repair has gotten a lot more straight forward since the last time I needed to fix a mac. Only about $820 for everything including the hinge covers and tool rental. good stuff.

How did this happen? It looks like the display was forced back somehow.
