Hi there. I recently changed my battery (last week) as my OG one shopped holding charge. In the process we damaged the screen so I changed my screen 2 days ago to the one ifixit sells. Now my phone gets quite warm without really any excessive use. Is this common ? Should I be following up with ifixit? The screen is LCD not OLED

Make sure that the display and battery cable connectors are connected properly, that could be a cause of the excessive heat. I would contact Ifixit as they could further suggest troubleshooting steps to better find out the main cause.
