Upgrading my PowerBook’s logic board?

I have a 17” 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 that has an issue with the graphics card and the TAS chip. I’d like to replace my logic board with a new one, but I noticed that the 17” 1.67 GHz model (low res) has very similar hardware parts. Will it be possible if I can replace my logic board with the 1.67 GHz one and make it fully functional without replacing any other hardware parts?

Here’s a good listing of the different G4 models PowerBook G4 Specs carefully review the ports as there are a few different layouts, you need to match like for like. Also note the graphics in this series used an ATI (AMD) Mobility Radeon chip which also offered the needed I/O interface. You just have different generations.

@puttkitsu just to clarify, you want to replace your faulty 820-1615 board with a 820-1688 board?

It will help if you can specify your exact model number.

As to the task itself self, finding a working logic board will be hard as most failed from Capacitor Plague as the small electrolytic caps dielectric often corroding out the cap.

Also keep in mind this system almost needs a few disassembly to get the logic board out and the connectors often break just from age.
