Grinding noise when turning off

Well I had a black and decker shop vac that did that and I progressively got worse so I drilled a tiny hole to where the main bearings are injected grease and oil mixture and got another 6 months out of it. Personally I think it's a bad design anytime bearings run dry. But who knows water or dirt may have accelerated the problem.
