Repair manuals for printers of many makes and models.

Repeated error code 012-283 with Library printer

Hi team,

We have had error code 012-283 occur with our library printers, we have had a printer technician out to repair once already, am seeking advice regarding this as I can confirm there is no printer jam, there is no apparent faulty hinge and all doors to the library printer appear stable and sound, this is a recurring issue and I would rather my helpdesk team have a solution for repair instead of having to keep calling out the techs.

@tassy98309 what make and model is your printer?

da

@oldturkey03 Fuji Xerox Apeos C4570

@nick any idea about this printer. Can you help the OP?

@oldturkey03 I will need to see but it appears to be a finisher error based on 5 minutes of research. The error code screamed Xerox in this case. I only knew bc when I was looking for a color laser I came really close to buying a used owned Xerox Phaser.

Probably an odd choice for most others though, but I was close to it because the risk is relatively low for me.

@nick yes, I've read something about the sensor being the issue. Checking for a service manual as well.

Looking into this error, it's a confirmed finisher fault. The first thing to check is to make sure the finisher door is holding on well, and there are no broken tabs on it; if there aren't any broken tabs, it's likely a sensor fault. On this unit, I don't see an option to add an external finisher like larger units tend to have, so this is almost certainly an internal sensor issue, not an external finisher problem.

If the door is fine, the issue likely lies with the actuator sensor being broken. While I do not have a SM for this unit (as it is hard to find them for Xerox printers), I did find a video that shows what the sensor should approximately look like:

It may be something you can shim to fix, but you will likely need to replace the assembly with this sensor tab. It likely is not a part you can likely find on its own, given its size and the cost of supplying it independently. If it's similar to the video I found, you can probably replace the assembly which holds it and leave the rest be.

This video is for an AltaLink, but this is where I found what it could potentially look like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nMJlZsM...

Just wanted to add to Nick's answer that I located the error codes specific to your printer on the Fujifilm website and of course it confirms his diagnosis that it's a finisher fault.

Here's the actual text.

According to the available manuals, it appears the finisher is considered an optional unit, as it has a separate manual from the main unit. Here are links to both.

Unfortunately these documents are of limited utility for your purposes, as they don't get into the kind of detail you need to diagnose the problem with yours. I just wanted to contribute what I had found toward helping your research.

I wouldn't be shocked if anything except the internal finisher (A) or the lower tier external is the most common. Finisher C seems extra for a library. If I got one like this (under the Xerox label, we don't get Fuji Xerox machines here - same machines as Xerox but they're rebadged as Fuji) and it was an external finisher I'd probably scrap it once it gave out given it's something to fail I could easily forego.

If I really needed a stapler, I'll use a Swingline. Now I DID look at the Fuji print line, they did rebrand the Xerox inkjet press with the 6 color system and optimized a color and mono laser press for photo printing but it screams Xerox with photo optimizations. That's all we get from Fuji Xerox here.
