Why does my fan keep stopping

Hello. I have a GE GFE28HMHDES french door refrigerator. The fresh food fan started making some noise and intermittently running. I replaced the fan and now it is quiet, but will stop running after a while. Unplugging the fan harness and plugging it back in will get it to run, but then it will eventually quit. I ran diagnostics and it received a 00 00 code, which means it failed with 0 RPMS. Any ideas?

GE issued a Customer Satisfaction program bulletin for this a few years back. I'm not sure if it is still in operation but GE was honoring free repairs for this. The part they are saying should be replaced is WR49X25197. However, depending on your serial number, the part won't work after a replacement and requires a software update to function properly. If your serial number range is HD - FF (May 2014 - Mar 2015) you'll need the software update which only GE technicians can provide.

Thanks for the information Matt, it makes sense that this would be the problem. But my serial number is AF501021. Whic this still apply if I am outside the mention serial number range?

It might. I don't have access to current service bulletins so it is entirely possible that they expanded the scope to include your model. Given you already replaced the fan I can't see how replacing it again would make any difference, which leads me to believe that the software update may in fact be required. I will do some research and check with some colleagues in the industry to see if there is any further detail.

What was the part number for the fan you replaced?
