How to troubleshoot failing trackpad?

Hello, friends.

The trackpad on my Lenovo Yoga C740-14IML fails in some apparently random fashion.

I feel it could be related to some power instability, since it fails between transition between hybernating states. And apparently the only "fix" is to turn off the laptop for a few hours and pray. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn't. Linux booting logs sometimes show something like "couldn't change power settings of hid device".

How would you go about troubleshooting it?
