Model A1347. Released on July 21, 2011. Core i5 or Core i7 Processor. Thunderbolt. This unit is also used to run the Mac mini Server configuration.

SSD install did not work (software)

I managed to install my Corsair Force III 120Gb SSD in my brand new Mac Mini using the ifixit kit. I then cloned the original HDD to the new SSD and booted from it. All I got was a kernel panic (related, most of the times, but not at every boot, to ACPI).

I removed the SSD and installed it on a Windows machine so to upgrade the firmware to 1.3.3.

I re-installed the SSD in the Mac (by now I can do the job in ~5 minutes) but still no luck. I could only boot in safe mode.

I would therefore advise not to install a Corsair Force Sata III in a Mac Mini because it does NOT work. Also, if it worked, it would suck anyway because I benchmarked it (using the original HDD to boot) and speed is pretty much the the same as the standard HDD.

Has anyone managed to install a Corsair in their Mac mini and if yes, what results did you get?

This is a 6 GB transfer rate hard drive and your MacMini will only see a 3 GB or less I believe. Jumper the drive to slow it down for it to be seen. There should be four jumper pins and I would try the two to the outside first then try the two to the inside.

Thanks, now the SSD is inside the Mac mini (used as a secondary drive) and I can not check, but I've never seen any jumpers on it. Also the Mac mini is supposed to be Sata III compatible. Also Corsair says the Force III series is fully compatible with Macs. Big bunch of liars.

hmmmmm….

my research shows that all mac minis 2011 and later have 6GB SATA:

and SATA III is the spec for the 6GB interface:

So the incompatibility lies elsewhere. Perhaps the corsair SSD is configurable??

It likely needs to be formatted with the correct structure for OS-X: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
