Replacing broken HDD seagate 320GB 7200 for Samsung 320GB 5400

Hey all!

I'm having a problem with an internal HDD replacement. I bought a Samsung spinpoint 320GB 5400rpm HDD to built into my maxbook pro 15" A1286 model. My old internal HDD is broken and when i heard the cost of a HDD replacement by Apple i thought it could spare me some money by repairing it myself. As i removed the old HDD en replaced the new one, everything went just fine. I followed all the instructions on Ifixit and all the srews fit :D. When i turned the computer on (booted with the Mac os X 10.6 DVD in it, and held "c" on the keyboard) it starts up the installation procedure for Mac OS X. But the new HDD is not recognized by the Mac OS X DVD and neither by the Disk Utility application on the DVD. Also when i watch my Serial SATA information in System profile it says that there isn't any.

How is this possible? Is this HDD not compatible with my macbook pro 15"A1286?

I already performed:

- a PRAM

- Initialized the new HDD on a windows PC (didn't make a partition on it.)

Your drive is a 3 GB per second and needs to be slowed down to 1.5 GB. The jumpers are used to do this on most drives. There should be 4 pins by themselves, try jumping the first two pins.

I have had this problem twice on my old 2009 MBP. I had a broken HDD connector cable. What I would do:

Test the original HDD by connecting it via USB to your mac and starting it up (maybe use the C or Optopn key), could be that the original HDD wasn't even broken in the first place ;) If this doesn't work it probably is broken indeed. Then do the same with the new HDD (connect it via USB).

If this works then the internal connecter is probably broken. This was the problem in my case altho the first time, theyve replaced my HDD. The second time they've replaced the cable for €120.

Id buy the cable off of ebay ;)
