After changing the battery, the CPU temps skyrocket!

Hello there!

I recently changed the battery of my MacBook Pro June 2018 using the iFixIt pack, but since then my CPU temps are going in the 60 degrees when bowsing the internet (for example, when writing this post, the CPU temp jumped to 75 deg and then went down to around 60)

I have Mac Fan Control installed, the Hot app and Coconut Battery. Here is what coconut battery tells me regarding my battery:

I am planning on changing the thermal paste on the laptop, maybe that would help a bit? Otherwise, is there anything else I could do? Is it even normal?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Well after changing the thermal paste + resetting NVRAM and SMC - > I lost 10 whole degrees when idle... Not sure how that happened but it did! Great! Thanks for the help! :D

The answer (in my case) was resetting SMC, NVRAM and changing the thermal paste!

(Change paste before resetting the settings)

Hope that helps!

Make sure the fans are spinning freely and not dislodged, since replacing the battery requires the whole motherboard to come out, I would start by retracing steps checking whether everything is back in place correctly, other than that I cannot really think of anything else. If you did not remove the heatsink from the motherboard then I do not suspect thermal paste to be the issue, so that leaves either an issue with the fans and airflow into the heatsinks, or possibly an aftermarket battery causing something to misbehave which is more unlikely. You can use a tool such as TG Pro to monitor different temperature sensors on the Mac which might help in narrowing down where the issue is
