Do I need a laminator for iPhone screen repair?

I’m very interested in starting iPhone screen repair/ refurbishing, and I keep on seeing videos of people doing it with a laminator.

-what does the laminator do?

- Is it needed, and if not, what is an alternative (if any)?

Laminators apply a layer of plastic to surfaces. For example, the outer glass of the Vision Pro is laminated (which is why it scratches so easily, lol). Lamination can help prevent glass from going all over the place if the screen is shattered (it’s also used to coat papers so that dry-erase markers can be used on them). They also change the texture of the screen, improving visibility in bright environments (don’t quote me on that, though). HOWEVER, laminating your screen would make it much less resistant to scratches and such. Also, I’m not sure you can replace the glass of an iPhone without replacing the screen, since I’m pretty sure it’s part of the screen. Furthermore, iPhone screens are already laminated, and any replacement screen you buy would be laminated. Applying a low-quality lamination on top of that would just make your phone less durable.

No, a laminator is not necessary at all. What is the model of the phone? iFxit has guides to replacing phone screens for most iPhones...

The model of the screen I want to refurbish is iPhone 13 Pro Max. But it’s not just a screen replacement, I want to replace the *glass* on the phones screen
