Charges fine using an off-brand wall charger which is not usb

Dock connector looks fine. Battery is new. Many different usb-dock connector plugs old and new have been tried. Won’t sync to any computer new or old. Original 30gb drive still works and plays all of its music fine. What’s my issue here?
