The Meta Quest 3 mixed reality headset was released on October 10th, 2023 and is the direct successor to the Meta Quest 2 and in many ways the spiritual successor to the Meta Quest Pro.

Hi That's not a smart idea, but if the external battery doesn't go under 30% and is the same ampere and volts it should be fine but I still advise you to connect the internal battery for the safety of the headset.

@sungrimlee there is no reason why it wouldn't. All you need is the right voltage. I am sure that there are many out here that really would like to know why you would want to do that. Let us know what is on your mind.

Built-in batteries are short-lived and use-time.

More importantly, removing the built-in battery can reduce the weight.

It's because I only want to use external batteries like Apple's Vision Pro.

@sungrimlee the execution on this could be a bit different. YOu may have to reuse or modify the battery controller and the connector. I am certain that the VR logic board requires the feedback from the battery. I wonder.....does the headset come on when you have an empty battery but connect the AC adapter? If so, I'd go through that port to supply power from an external battery. That would not require any mod on the inside of the headset/battery.

As I understand it, the built-in battery has to have some level of charge before an external power supply can be used. One can't just hook up a power supply to the charge point and start using it when the internal battery is dead.

The quest3 when running at native resolution @ 120hz draws more power than the battery + being charged at the same time from its usb-c port can handle. this means the headset is capable of drawing more wattage than you are able to supply to it and thus is impossible to keep running indefinitely without modifying the internal battery. The USB-C port on a quest 3 is only able to charge at a max spec rate of 9v 2a "roughly 18 to 22 watts" there is no way to force the quests usb-c port to accept charging at a higher wattage it is hard limited to 9v 2amps. Normally this is fine if the quest 3 is run at lower refresh rates and lower resolution. But if the headset is used to its full potential you will run into a situation where you can only run the headset for about 2 hours max before you run the internal battery so low the headset is forced to shutdown because there is not enough battery + charging current to sustain working operating voltage. the ONLY WAY to fix this is to put a large internal battery that can either be externally charged with an external bms, or charged with the internal bms through hackery and careful battery voltage range and makeup selection.
