Screen Alternating Between Which Side is Backlit

So this problem started 7/8 months ago where one side of the TV screen suddenly became dim. Image was still there but one side of the screen was notably darker than the other so the thinking was that some of the LED strips had failed.

But I didn't do anything about it and a few months later the side of the screen which is dim begins to switch sides every few days. And now it's reached the point that you can turn on the TV and the screen will be fine and perfectly lit but eventually after an hour or two one side will become dark. The TV being fully lit may possibly be coinciding with it being turned off for a few days so possibly some damaged connection or thermal paste issue maybe? I've no idea. Photos below.

This is leading me to think that it's not the LED strips at all but some connection gone on a board controlling them. Has anyone any experience of this issue or know a sensible path forward to repair or figure out the root cause?

@fadinglight the power board is the one that supplies the voltage and the main board is the one that tells it to turn on. If this would be a board issue then the whole strip would turn off not just half the backlight strip. That would mean you would have a dark screen in a horizontal direction, not vertical. The backlight strips are mounted in a horizonatal direction. There is really no way it can turn off half a screen or even individual LED's.

Ty this. disconnect your cable box/sat box or whatever you are using to receive your programs. Reset that equipment. Most common reset is to unplug it, disconnect it and then hold the power button depressed for about a minute. Then reconnect. See if that changed anything.

Of course, you can always check the voltage on your power supply and let us know what that voltage is. Ultimately it does look like bad LED's on your strips that are starting to fail. They get hot, turn off and then cool down enough where they start working again. I would replace the LED backlight.

@oldturkey03 Thank you for the reply. I wasn't sure if the strips were laid vertically or horizontally.

Coincidently (or not) the issue was first noticed one morning I was trying to access a "Ultra HD" setting on Sky but I've tried multiple inputs (Sky Box, Android Box), multiple HDMI positions (1-3), cables and all have the same result unfortunately.

When you say check the voltage you mean measure the it with a mustimeter? I don't have one but if it's worth while I can pick one up.

@fadinglight sometimes by decreasing the brightness or the color settings in your menu, you find that the time between failure will expand. those lettings cut the power to the LED strips by a percentage that allows them not to run to hot and last longer. Some of these strips are using heat sinks because they are getting hot enough to fail. It's a PITA but a relative easy fix.

Yes, you would need a multimeter for those. If you have to purchase one, don't go all out. Any inexpensive digital or analog meter will work. Digital is easier to read but both will work.

@oldturkey03 Thanks I'll do a little tinkering with the settings and see if I can reduce the energy usage. I don't suppose you know how many led strips are on a 43 inch Samsung by any chance? My guess is four strips running the width of the screen from videos of other models but just asking.

And should something like the following be what I'm looking to replace with or are they usually better value? I might order two sets of the link below to replace the 4 strips and see if I can't get a longer lifetime out of this TV, it's only 4/5 years old at most.

Thanks for all your insight!

@fadinglight that should work. The biggest issue is the power usage. If you keep the brightness down a bit they should actually last quite a bit.
