Why is there play in my steering wheel?

The Ram line was redesigned for the 1994 model year. Development on a second generation began in 1986, ending in late 1992.

There is about a 5 inch play in the steering wheel. I can’t be sure what the cause is.

Excessive play is generally caused by worn steering racks and tie rod ends.
