My device won't hold a charge after bad repair job.

my usb c port was extremely lose and causing me issues, I decided to replace the usb-c port and back glass(glass was heavily cracked. I later on decided to also swap the battery while I was going inside(this was my mistake)

teardown went mostly smoothly (usb-c port was full of lint but I could get it out with port inside of phone) I got to battery removal step and it says "using your isopropyl alch 90% remove battery adhesive" I didn't have 90% isopropyl on hand or any, so i went to the store bought 70% and a little plastic medicine syringe. in the process of removing the battery adhesive it was very very difficult and the medicine syringe was very bad at pouring it in a small area, every few insertion attempts it would get stuck? and fart out in a wide area. at this point what I thought was going to take a short 2~ hours has taken at least 3 and its not even back together yet so i begin reassembly and figure ill leave it off long term while it dry's off all the isopropyl alch, this didn't work as planned while reassembling it turned itself back on.

Presumably I bumped power button but I'm not sure, once fully assembled fingerprint sensor wasn't working, moisture inside camera and screen having flickering issues before screen became unresponsive, left it in rice for 2~3 days attempted to turn on and it powered screen on when plugged in. upon powering on it was working for less than 5 min before freezing so I gave it a few days and tried again if I plug it in it wont seem to charge the charging circle will show up but the number doesn't increase at all I can power it on while it is in charger plugged in.

while it is off and plugged in no number shows up just a circle with lighting bolt and no moving green bars so I'm guessing I broke the battery in some way?

I can only power it on using the force start lower volume rocker and lock button, and its stuck on 0% battery, it doesn't seem to stay on for very long (sometimes I can get it to boot, attempts to run through Samsung members diagnostic fail as phone dies before it finishes.

so far I have gone and unplugged and re-plugged battery cable no noticeable difference.

I have left it plugged into chargers very longtime(like a few hours) but its stuck on attempting to charge while dead screen.

I took it as far apart as I originally had it (wireless charging coil & motherboard bracket out, battery unplugged, main display cable unplugged, lower midframe unfastened & loudspeaker removed, daughter board disconnected & removed, main & aux flex cables removed. I left it like this for 2 hours before reassembly no change.

apologies for formatting, grammar, and walls of text I tried to keep it nice looking and coherent, I'm very aware I messed up greatly and this is my fault, I would just like recommended steps to fix or anything like that

I am sure the isopropyl alch getting everywhere is at least partially the culprit but when I can turn it on screen and everything seems fine so I wonder if there's something wrong with the battery/usb-c port install.

@adammunns that is a very detailed question with lots of background. Well done. Anyhow let's see if we can address one issue at a time. Yes, teh 70% isopropyl alcohol was not a good choice since 30% are still other liquids. So you are possibly looking at a possibly immersion that caused a short circuit. Let's address this.

First of the myth of rice as a tool for any kind of immersion accident has long been laid to rest as totally bogus. Rice does not work. It is the equivalent of doing absolutely nothing. Stop continuing to try to charge, sync or otherwise use your phone. This potentially can make a bad situation worse. This may further damage your phone.

The next thing to do is to clean it. Disassemble your phone using these guides Samsung Galaxy S20 . You must remove all EMI shields from the circuit board. If you do not remove those, you might as well not do anything. After you removed those, clean the whole board, connectors and all with +96% isopropyl alcohol. Follow this guide, and even so it was written for an Apple iPhone 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. While you clean your board, check for any obvious damage, like burned or missing components etc. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Best thing to do would be to clean it with an ultrasonic cleaner, but if you do not have access to one, this will at least help. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Until it is cleaned, everything will only be a guess. Even with all this, water damage has only a small chance to be fully repaired, but at least you can give it a try.

As for your replacing your USB-C port, if you just replaced the port, double check your work. At this point I would even suggest to replace the complete daughterboard. Galaxy S20 USB-C Charging Port and Daughterboard Replacement

"fingerprint sensor wasn't working" hopefully not the board but the sensor itself shorted out. Clean and re-evaluate. May need replacement

"moisture inside camera" will not get better. Is going to always have residue on it, even when the liquid has evaporated.. I'd consider replacement.

"and screen having flickering issues before screen became unresponsive" could be the screen but could be the logic board. Re-evaluate after cleaning the board.

After re-evaluation and should you still have issues, you can try this. Use the Samsung troubleshooting guides to narrow it down. Those will tell you which components to check. Use a PDF reader to search in the component layout file, for the components listed in the troubleshooting. i. e. search for L7002 in the pdf file to see where it is located.

I just grabbed my old daughterboard and reinstalled it and tried and same thing, I don't particularly care if the fingerprint sensor is no longer working that was more to add info the s20 fingerprint sensor is quite bad imo. Having been able to power it on for short times the screen at a glace seems fine now

and the cameras evaporation will fix that enough to satisfy me.

so it sounds like Its my motherboard in some way, unless its my new battery, I could as you said clean and inspect but am I just better off trying to order a new motherboard?

@adammunns don't want to waste any money just yet. Cleaning it will be your best bet. Remember there is residue on that, which you do not want. Your Rice will also leave starches, which you do not want :-)

Yes, replace your battery one more time. Consider this one "toast" Dispose of your batteries properly :-)

@oldturkey03 how do I know the battery is toast? I grabbed my old one and attempted to charge with the wireless charging coil out of the way and it made no difference which lead me to thinking the motherboard was to blame...?

how much difference does 91% vs 99% isopropyl alcohol make for this? I'm guess more concentrated better?

yeah I'd rather not waste my money either, but it almost sounded like this is a slim to none chance of fixing it?

@adammunns the higher the number the less water you have in it. I like to go as high as possible so I do not have any residue. It's a matter of availability and price.

I consider any battery that had any kind of exposure, as faulty. Remember the battery control management board may just be shorted out etc. It's my practice to change it, so I always have a known-well starting point. That leaves less room for error.
