Why does my screen go black and refuses to work for hours?

Started a week ago after I left my phone in my car for an hour on a hot day. Battery is fine. It resumes to work after a few hours. Someone looked at it today and noticed my Do not Disturb button on and said that was my problem but if so why could I navigate and see everything?
