How much would it cost to fix a screen on my Moto play phone

@matthewharr9454 matthew, iFixit alone lists 13 different phones with the words "Motorola Play" in them. You'll have to be more specific on what model you have.

Hi Jeffery,

I'm afraid I don't have good news for you. Today's phones all come with the digitizer (usually that top layer of glass) fused to the LCD with something called OCA, or Optically Clear Adhesive. In order to apply it correctly you need a vacuum chamber to remove the air bubbles, followed by a UV chamber to set the adhesive. Most of us don't have these pieces of equipment lying around our houses.

That assumes you've managed to separate the LCD successfully, which is by no means a given. The correct way to do it is to use a specialized vacuum table and very thin wire to separate them.

It's possible to do, but I would personally never recommend trying it, especially when you can get a full replacement screen on eBay for under $25 USD.

You'll need to remove the screen either way but unfortunately good instructions for your phone appear to be hard to come by. I did find one although I'll caution you that it's a bit terse and shy on detail on how to do the steps it calls for.

Since you have the parts already it probably wouldn't hurt to try to separate the LCD and replace the front glass yourself, but be aware there's a pretty good chance you're going to end up with air bubbles in the screen, something like you get if you don't clean your screen before you put on a screen protector. You should be able to find lots of generic YouTube videos on separating the front glass from an LCD; I doubt you'll find one specific to your phone but there might be something out there for a Motorola phone in general.

To sum up, my advice would be to go ahead and order a replacement screen and go that route. It won't hurt for you to try the front glass replacement yourself, but do go in with realistic expectations that the result, especially for your first try, probably won't be professional grade.

Total waste of time and money attempting to replace glass only. To do it correctly you need to spend thousands on equipment. Just buy a complete screen.
