What resistors are missing on this MacBook Air A1466 Logic Board?

  1. I was replacing the EFI/BIOS on this Macbook Air A1466 (I believe its a 2017 model) and in the process I think I knocked off one or more resistors. It would be great if someone could find out how many are missing and where they should go. Thanks! Note: The image is right near where the EFI Chip would go on the logic board.

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf your picture is not quite closely zoomed in, to really identify what is missing. These are the resistors around the IC.

C6100 is a 0.1µF 10% 16V capacitor in a 0201 package

R6116 is a 15 ohm 5% 1/20W resistor in a 0201 package

R6102 is a 100 Kohm 5% 1/20W resistor in a 0201 package

R6115 is a 15 ohm 5% 1/20W resistor in a 0201 package

R6128 is a 24.9ohm 1% 1/20W resistor on a 0201 package

R6126 is a 43 ohm 5% 1/20W resistor on a 0201 package

R6121 is a 43 ohm 5% 1/20W resistor on a 0201 package

Update (05/14/23)

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf here you go. I use Mouser.com for my parts. I know shipping is expensive but I have had 0 issues with their stuff for over 15 years. Nope, no kickbacks :-)

Cost somewhere in the USD $2.00 range. Shipping excluded. Get a handful of those since shipping will be the same and 0201 is pretty small. You'll lose a couple on the way :-)

Thank you, this greatly helps. I also updated the photos so they are more detailed. Do you know if these can be ordered anywhere? If not, what will happen if I reassemble the macbook and use it without replacing these?

da

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf you could be having trouble with your EFI IC. I would think mouser.com or digikey.com will have all of those except maybe that odd duck R6128

da

@oldturkey03 Ok. Do you think it is worth reassembling and trying to turn the MacBook on even with some of these capacitors and resistors visibly missing? Or would that fry my macbook or cause other problems?

da

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf it won't fry but it may give you issues. It'll be entirely your call. Personally, I am not as smart and always figure that the Apple engineers have a reason to put those parts there. So I usually replace what is missing ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

da

@oldturkey03 Okay, I think I may try it first with the resistors missing. If it doesn't work i will try finding the parts online. Hopefully it still works 🤞

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf - You do realize the EFI chip is needed! And it needs to be programmed before installing.

I installed a pre-programmed EFI chip, as seen in the updated photos above

da

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf - One of the problems I have seen is these pre-programmed chips are not setup with the newest version of firmware. So your system won’t boot up as your drive is setup with APFS file system Vs the older HFS+. You’ll need an external bootable drive running Sierra then upgrade it to what you are currently running.

da

@danj Oh, okay. Is this still the case when the system doesn't boot up at all? Or just if there is a grey file screen with a question mark?

da

@sfzxt4hfvrydrnf - Grey screen with question mark.

Is that where your stuck at?

da

Unfortunately, not anymore. The mac doesn't turn on at all, with nothing displayed and the fan not even spinning after pressing the power button. I suspect it is due to those missing resistors, as shown on the photo.
