The iOpener is an insulated, heat-retaining bag that can be heated in a microwave and used to transfer heat to the adhesive along the edge of an iPad or similar device.

Can the iOpener be tossed in a freezer?

The iOpener highly resembles commercial reusable ice/heat packs just with a shape more useful for electronics repair. It's not mentioned anywhere on the site (as it's outside its intended use) but can it be chilled?

Mine has been in the freezer for a while and like a ice pack it wont freeze but stays extremely cold, if you plan on using it like a ice pack is probably not the best idea because you cannot wrap it or bend it around body parts as there isn't much air in it.

Yes, it can be used frozen, but I would put it in a plastic bag first to prevent moisture infiltration.

Yes, it can be frozen, but be careful when bending the iOpener while the plastic housing is cold. The liquid inside is fine to freeze, but flexing the plastic while very cold can cause tiny tears/fractures in the plastic that can leak once the iOpener has warmed up.

Why would you want to freeze it? What repair application would benefit using it that way?

The tool is intended to soften adhesive bonds using heat.

Sometimes i need to cool stuff I'm working on - not necessary repairs but other projects.

@fufs - I don’t think any one tested it in that way.

I would be careful, I would recommend you place it in a thick walled storage bag when freezing and use it that way as well.

Maybe it would be best getting something else.
