What to do when selling logic board?

My MacBook Pro 13" recently had the screen break. Instead of fixing it, I have bought a new laptop and now I want to sell the old one as parts. I am planning on selling the logic board but not sure how to do so. I know you need to use an anti-static bag, but how do you confirm that it is working before selling it? I don't want to sell it and have someone say it was broken when it wasn't when it was sold.

The last time I tried to remove the logic board I had issues with the SMC where it needed to be reset after disconnecting and reconnecting the battery, everything worked fine afterwards though, not sure if this is normal or not.

I would just sell the full system as is. Just create a set of images which shows the condition of the system the good and the bad. As the display is dead I would hookup an external display taking a picture which clearly shows the two and the connections so there is no dispute.

As far as what’s needed before you sell it.

  • You do need to remove the system from iCloud and remove your TouchID finger prints
  • The most important is removing your content.
  • Then you want to install wipe the drive and install a fresh OS on to it.

If you ready want to take the system apart (which doesn’t pay any more) the logic board and the TouchID button need to be shipped together as they are linked.

The uppercase by it’s self as well as the battery don’t have much value as they are the most worn parts.

Would selling the full laptop as it is bring down the value? Nothing other than the logic board and TouchID is salvageable as it's all very worn out. I've also noticed on websites like eBay that broken laptops are worth less than if the logic board was to be removed and sold separately.

Are there places that would buy it as a spare part or is it really just placing it on websites like eBay waiting for someone to buy it?

@thelostpro27476 - The difference is if the logic board works or not. The P1 here is a picture of the external display and system working together. Then the images of the system both good an bad.

EBay is a good start and with the images you would get at least the value of a working logic board. There are other sites which might buy your system I’m afraid I haven’t needed to search in a long while.
