@jsabbagh not all bad bearings seize. Some get really loose and rattly and throw the shaft out of center. This will cause excessive wear on the bearing surfaces as well as the shaft. If you think it needs to be replaced, go ahead and do so.

If yours is the brushed version, it is easily possible that the noise is coming from the carbon brushes. Time to check it all out.

Yep, agree 100%. Open up the drill and locate the brushes, if present. Spin the motor by hand to determine if the noise is coming from the brushes; also inspect them and their contact surfaces for any damage, checking their length to see if they're worn out or not. You can try removing them and seeing if it turns smoothly without them too.

If those look okay, you'll need to check the bearings. Remove the motor from the housing and spin the bearings by hand. Check for noise while turning and for any sloppiness in them; there should be no movement whatsoever other than rotation. If you find rattling or seizing, it'll be time for replacement.
